The Hexbug Spider XL is a 6 inch tall walking robot. This hack walks you through mounting a smartphone on top of the spider and replacing the spider electronics with an EMGRobotics Audio Dual Motor Controller Board (ADMCB). The ADMCB allows the motors in the Hexbug Spider XL to be controlled by the headphone jack on the smartphone. With the ADMCB, the spider can be guided by OpenCV computer vision applications running on the smartphone. You can build your own smartphone controlled walking robot (with computer vision) for less than $50.00.
